Runners' stories
From time to time we share a special story from one of our runners that has participated in, or is going to participate in, one of our Bananaman Chase events. If you have a personal story about your connection to Leukaemia Research please contact us at banana@lrf.org.uk.
Story of the month
"Dear fellow Bananas,
This photo was taken at Bananaman Chase 10K 2006 of me with my daughter Emma. I gave birth to Emma just a few weeks after my Mum had died from leukeamia.
The Bananaman 10K was such a great day that I was inspired to write a poem shortly afterwards.
I’m very much looking forward to the next run in 2007.
Kind Regards
Stephanie Williams"

Bananaman 10K
A Sunday morning in late June and it’s a gorgeous day.
I’m in Victoria Park, about to run the Bananaman 10K.
I have a yellow T shirt on, the wasps are very keen.
The tunes upon the tannoy have a banana theme.
Ten celebrities appear from nowhere, all dressed as yellow fruit,
Except the one amongst them wearing a gorilla suit.
The hooter hoots; Banana One sets off along the trail.
I think I recognise him; it’s that bloke from Emmerdale!
A sea of yellow follows as we run in hot pursuit.
Occasionally stopping for a piece of fruit en route.
I’m halfway and my feet are sore. I wallow in self pity.
If first aid’s required along the way, Banana Three’s from Holby City.
Hurray!! I cross the finish line in just under one hour.
I’m offered a banana which I hungrily devour.
I know I’m not the fastest; there’ll be no Olympic bid,
I’m still feeling rather chuffed because I’ve raised three hundred quid!
